The blueprint for a bus rapid
transit system project in Mumbai
is ready, nearly eight years
after Mumbai Metropolitan
Region Development Authority
conceived the project. The two corridor
BRTS project is estimated
to cost Rs 3,500 crore.
Consulting Engineering Services
India Pvt. Ltd was appointed
to plan, design and implement the
BRTS under which dedicated bus
lanes could be earmarked Bandra
and Dahisar along the Western
Express Highway and between
Sion and Cadbury Junction along
the Eastern Express Highway.
The company has proposed a 25-
km BRTS corridor on each highway,
with dedicated bus lanes on
either side of the median, at a total
cost of around Rs 1,312 crore.
However, MMRDA has reportedly
backed out of the project and
Bombay Electric Supply Transport
undertaking is expected to step in
its place.
