Ministry of Coal has issued show cause notice for the delay in achieving milestones relating to Bhaskarpara coal block allocated jointly to Electrotherm (India) Limited (EIL) and Grasim Industries Limited (GIL). While EIL has a share of 52.63% in the coal block located in the state of Chhattisgarh, the remaining share of 47.37 belongs to GIL. The coal block was allocated in November 2008 and according to the ministry, it is two and half years behind schedule in achieving various milestones including grant of forest and environmental clearances.

The block with an estimated geological reserve of 46.91 million tonnes (MT) and extractable reserves of 24.06 MT will meet the captive requirements of EIL`s 0.8 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) sponge iron plant in Kutch district of Gujarat and GIL`s 0.72 MTPA cement plant in Chittorgarh district of Rajasthan.
