The Central government has
approved in principle the proposed
Information Technology
Investment Region project to be set
up between Doddaballapur and
Chikkaballapur near Bengaluru
International Airport in Karnataka.
The Karnataka government
will soon appoint Keonics (Karnataka
State Electronics Development
Corporation Ltd) as the
nodal agency for executing the
project that will spread across
10,000 acres. About 57 IT companies
including Infosys and
Wipro have shown interest in
setting up their operations in the
proposed region.
The state government has identified
the required land and a preliminary
notification has been
issued in respect of 2,100 acres.
Work on the project is expected to
start in a month's time. The state
has earmarked an investment of
Rs 40,000 crore in phase-I and Rs
1.4 lakh-crore in phase-II.
The project also includes a mini
airport apart from road and rail
connectivity near the Information
Technology Investment Region.
The Centre will provide infrastructural
assistance. The ITIR
will be governed by a management
board that will have representatives
from both the central
and state governments.
