Bharat Heavy Electricals
Ltd has successfully
commissioned
the second unit of the
2x250MW at Harduaganj
thermal power station in
Uttar Pradesh. With this, 6
million units of electricity
will be added to the grid of
the power deficit state,
every day.

Ltd had placed orders for
setting up two units of 250-
MW each at Harduaganj
TPS to BHEL. The first
unit was commissioned in
September 2011. The project
has now been completed
with the commissioning
of the second unit.
Significantly, with this,
BHEL has commissioned
back-to-back, thermal
generating units with a
cumulative capacity of
1,000 MW in Uttar
Pradesh, the other units
being 500 MW at Rihand
STPS and 250 MW at
Parichha TPS. For
UPRVUNL, BHEL is also
presently executing contracts
for another 250 MW
unit at Parichha and two
units of 500 MW each at
Anpara TPS.
BHEL's scope of work in
the Harduaganj contract
envisaged manufacture,
supply, erection, testing
and commissioning of the
main plant package along
with associated auxiliaries
and civil works for the
main plant package for
this power project.
The equipment for the
thermal project were manufactured
at the company's
different plants located
in cities of Haridwar,
Trichy, Ranipet, Hyderabad,
Bangalore, Bhopal
and Jhansi. BHEL's Power
Sector - Northern Region
was responsible for the
erection and commissioning
of the equipment.
BHEL has fully established
state-of-the-art
technology for manufacture
of thermal sets up to
600MW rating in the subcritical
range and has the
capability to manufacture
sets up to 1,000 MW rating.
The company has also
equipped itself to produce
thermal sets ranging 660
MW, 700 MW and 800
MW with supercritical
parameters.
The company has also
recently bagged a major
contract from NTPC valued
at `1,143 crore for setting
up for a 500 MW thermal
power plant at Vindhyachal
in Madhya
Pradesh.
With the present order,
86 numbers of 500 MW
thermal sets have been
contracted by BHEL and
the unit is being set up
under the Mega Power
Project policy.
On commissioning of the
500MW Vindhyachal
power station the cumulative
generating capacity of
the station will be
enhanced to 4,760 MW
and with this 12 million
units of electricity will be
added to the grid of the
power deficit state, every
day, a release stated.
