NEEPCO’s 100 MW power project in West Tripura may fail to meet the deadline unless BHEL speeds up the process of awarding rest of the BoP packages. BHEL which has been hired as sub-contractor for BoP and erection work has so far ordered only 45 of the 108 packages. In fact the remaining packages have longer lead times and unless BHEL acts fast on the matter, the project may miss January 2013 deadline. In the mean time, NEEPCO is planning to levy liquidated damages on BHEL for delay in completing the contract. Liquidated damages may amount to 0.5% of the total contract price per week of delay.
Tripura gas based project was conceived in 2002 and as per the original plan the project was to have 500 MW capacity which later on was scaled down to 280 MW and further to present proposed capacity of 100 MW due to non-availability of natural gas. The gas requirement for the project is pegged at 0.5 MMSCMD.
