Grundfos Pumps India Pvt.
Ltd, a 100 per cent Danish
subsidiary, inaugurated
the new 7,000 sq. metre
facility at Thoraipakkam in Chennai.
The facility, which was constructed
in a record 11 months
with an investment of Rs 17.6
crore, boasts of very sophisticated
material handling equipment
needed to handle pumps and
components in the manufacture,
assembly and storage operations.
It also houses an office area of
1,000 sq. metres.
The new facility has a test bed
capacity that is built to 300 kw
and the entire load is well supported
by backup power, which
will help in the testing of large
pumps used for massive infrastructure
projects.
In addition to this expansion
within the existing facility, Grundfos
has acquired 16 acres of land
near Sriperumbudur to construct
an additional production facility
and the work is expected to commence
by 2011. The company has
also acquired 16 acres near Sriperumbudur
to meet increased
domestic demand.
Grundfos India is working with
IGBC to get a certification of
Green Factory Building to push its
agenda of energy efficiency, water
conservation and environmental
friendliness. It is of significance
that amongst the 14 plants of
Grundfos worldwide, Grundfos
India is a pioneer in receiving the
Green certification.
Speaking on the occasion, Carlo
Prola, Senior Vice President,
Grundfos Group, said, "India is
one of the most important overseas
markets for the company in
the Asia-Pacific region. The
expansion of the Chennai-based
facility further strengthens our
capabilities to adapt to the local
market and signifies our commitment
to long-term business operations
in India. We had established
our first facility in March
2005 and have since grown four
times the size in turnover."
Ranganath N.K., Managing
Director, Grundfos-India, said,
"Grundfos chose to expand its
operation at a time when the markets
were witnessing a downturn.
We plan to increase our footprint
in India and expand our
operations by setting up another
facility near Sriperumbudur. Our
vision is to be the best pump company
in all the segments that we
operate in. We continue to be
eco-friendly with our products
and our factories. "
The need for this expansion arose
out of the demand for energy efficient
and reliable pumps in the
market and current plans are to
produce end suction pumps, hydro
boosters, submersible and vertical
multistage in line pumps.
