TAFE Ltd will invest Rs 100 crore for increasing the capacity of its valve regulated lead acid (VRLA) battery at its Maraimalai Nagar plant to target the growing automotive, telecom & inverter segments. In the first phase, the company will invest around Rs 30 crore to manufacture around 100,000 units per month and production will be ramped up from second year onwards. TAFE Power Source, the manufacturing division of the company, signed a technical collaboration agreement with B.B. Battery Co. Ltd. of China to manufacture VRLA batteries.
The company was earlier importing the VRLA batteries & marketing it under the AMCO-Best brand name. As per the collaboration the company will adopt technology for production of entire range of VRLA batteries to be marketed within & outside India under AMCO-Best brand. TAFE Power Source has three battery plants with a monthly capacity to make 500,000 batteries which caters to the two/four wheelers original equipment manufacturers.
