Thermax inks deal with US firm for supercritical boilers
PM NEWS BUREAU
Friday, March 12, 2010, 11:40 Hrs  [IST]

Thermax Ltd. has formed strategic joint venture with Babcock & Wilcox Power Generation Group (B&W PGG) of USA to engineer, manufacture & supply super-critical boilers for the Indian power sector. The JV will also manufacture sub-critical boilers of over 300 MW in capacity. Thermax will own 51 percent share of the joint venture while B&W PGG will have 49 percent share.

Supercritical boilers operate at higher pressures than subcritical boilers, increasing efficiency and producing more energy from the same amount of fuel. The boilers will be manufactured at a new plant, which will have an annual capacity of 3000 MW equivalent in the first phase.
