The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard) has sanctioned Rs 10,297 crore loans until this financial year under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) for various projects in Gujarat, which is now among the top three States in terms of utilisation of RIDF loans.
Of the total RIDF assistance of Rs 10,297 crore extended since 1995-96, 28 per cent was used by the Narmada Water Resources, Water Supply and Kalpasar Department and around 22 per cent has been utilised by the Gujarat Water Supply and Sewerage Board and 24 per cent by the Roads and Buildings Department. One of the major programmes of the State government, supported by RIDF, was the construction of 29,689 check-dams across Gujarat.
