The Andaman & Nicobar
Administration is setting
up a medical college in the
Bay of Bengal archipelago
through PPP mode.
The A&N Administration has
identified a 43.31-hectare site
at Dudh Line in capital Port
Blair which will be offered to
the private entity for establishing
the medical college.
Andaman & Nicobar
already has a 450-bed referral
hospital, known as G.B.
Pant Hospital, which is about
4 km from the project site.
This hospital will be upgraded
to a teaching hospital.
The scope of the entire project
involves the construction
of a 100-seat medical college
and a 150-bed hospital within
the campus; upgradation
of the G.B. Pant Hospital and
associated facilities; and
operation and maintenance
of the medical college.
The government and the
private partner will hold
50:50 share in the venture
that will be developed on BOT
basis. The medical college
will be run on no profit-no loss
basis for a contract period of
30 years. The financial model
is yet to be finalised. Both the
DPR and concept plan for setting
up the medical college
are ready.
