Ashok Leyland to roll out construction equipment by 2011

Hinduja Group flagship company Ashok Leyland intends to roll out the first
construction equipment manufactured in joint venture with the US based John
Deere by early 2011. The plant, coming up at Gummidipoondi near Channai is
expected to commence pilot production by December 2010. The first product --
backhoe loader will hit the Indian market by early 2011. The range would
subsequently be expanded to include a full line of construction equipment.
The first light commercial vehicle built in joint venture with Japanese
automobile company Nissan will roll out by mid-2011 from the existing plant
at Hosur in Karnataka. Ashok Leyland is also looking for land to set up a
greenfield facility to make the light commercial vehicles.
The company has planned an investment of around Rs 2,000 crore over a
two-year period at its plants as well as in joint ventures. The company will
invest around Rs 1,200 crore in its own facilities and Rs 800 crore in joint
ventures. The company has got the shareholder’s nod to raise a debt of Rs
700 crore.
