Bombardier Transportation
plans to offer its Talent-
2 EMU, a multiple
unit passenger train, for
the proposed Kanchrapara
EMU project of the Indian Railways
in West Bengal.
Bombardier, in July this year,
submitted its RfQ for the project.
Bombardier's RfQ is for setting
up a state-of-the-art EMU,
MEMU (Mainline EMU) and
metro coach manufacturing unit
on 150 acres of land at Kanchrapara
in North 24 Parganas district
of West Bengal.
According to information
available, the Kanchrapara
EMU unit will come up on PPP
basis with the government
(Indian Railways) holding 26
per cent and the private partner
74 per cent. The unit will manufacture
some 500 EMU/MEMU
coaches annually.
Meanwhile, Bombardier has
already submitted prequalification
bids for the Dankuni locomotive
project in West Bengal and
has also been shortlisted as one
the companies for the Madhepura
locomotive project in Bihar.
Talent-2 has a modular concept,
which includes a high
degree of standardisation. The
trains offer an almost unlimited
level of flexibility in terms of
configuration, along with high
cost-effectiveness and transparency.
The innovative and
modular construction principle
allows for countless variants of
the same train type. The two- to
six-car trains can be equipped
with a wide variety of technical
modules, depending on whether
they are to be used as commuter
or regional express trains.
Bombardier Transportation
has been present in India for
over 35 years. Both the Central
and Western railways in Mumbai
run on the Bombardier
Transportation's Traffic Management
System.
Bombardier Transportation is
also a big supplier to the Delhi
Metro has a current order to
supply 538 metro cars. Bombardier's
railway vehicle manufacturing
facility at Savli in
Gujarat, inaugurated in November
2008, is the only facility in
India wholly owned by a foreign
company. All metro cars to be
supplied by Bombardier for
DMRC will be manufactured at
the Savli site.
