Grasim Industries Ltd, an Aditya Birla Group company, which is setting up a viscose staple fibre (VSF) manufacturing unit at Vilayat in Bharuch district of Gujarat, is expected to commission the project by March 2013. The plant, being set up at a cost of Rs 1,800-crore, will have a capacity of 1.20 lakh tonnes per annum. With this, VSF production capacity increases to 4.54 lakh tpa. The company also proposes an additional investment of Rs 800 crore to set up a caustic soda and a captive power plant at the Vilayat unit.
The new 35,000 tpa VSF plant at Harihar in Karnataka will be commissioned in the next 18 months and will increase Grasim's total VSF capacity to 5.89 lakh tpa. The company also has a 70,000 tpa facility for rayon grade pulp at Harihar.
