IT giant IBM has been appointed
as technology partner for the
9-million tpa Guru Gobind Singh
refinery project at Bathinda, Punjab,
being set up by HPCL-Mittal
Energy Ltd, a JV between Hindustan
Petroleum Corporation Ltd
and Singapore-based Mittal
Energy Investment Pte Ltd, a Lakshmi
N. Mittal Group company.
Under the partnership, IBM
will design and implement the
manufacturing execution system
(MES) for the refinery and
integrate all refinery operations,
from manufacturing to
marketing and distribution.
HMEL is investing over $4 billion
in the greenfield refinery that
will process 1.8 lakh bpd of crude
oil. The refinery, which is expected
to be commissioned by early
2011, will produce petroleum
products complying with Euro IV
emission norms. It will also have a
165-mw captive power plant, a
crude oil pipeline from the refinery
to Mundra (Gujarat) with single
point mooring, and a crude oil
terminal at Mundra.
