JCB India Ltd, a subsidiary of
J C Bamford Excavators Ltd,
UK, and one of India's largest
earthmoving and construction
equipment manufacturers, has
achieved a milestone by manufacturing
and selling its 100,001st
machine in the country.
While the company took 24
years to reach the 25,000 mark, it
got to the 50,000 mark within four
years, and the 100,001 milestone
in another four years.
Vipin Sondhi, MD & CEO, JCB
India, told Projectmonitor, "At the
moment the production is almost
entirely for the domestic market
with the company taking its first
steps towards exports." He said
that the Middle East, Asia-Pacific
and Africa were emerging markets
that would see huge demand.
India could emerge as a global
manufacturing hub for earthmoving
and construction equipment,
Sondhi said, adding that
the auto components industry
had already emerged as a global
manufacturing hub.
John Kavanagh, Group Communications
Director, JCB, said
that since other markets had witnessed
a contraction due to the
global slowdown, India's share of
JCB's global revenue basket
would rise substantially.
Kavanagh did not foresee fully
Made-in-India equipment
being sold in the UK due to different
equipment specifications
and norms as also because JCB
India would focus on India and
neighbouring markets. But,
Made-in-India components
would continue to be increasingly
utilised in equipment
manufactured in the UK due to
cost advantage, he said.
JCB India also launched its new
JCB branding that will now be
seen on all its machines.
