The composite ERIL Index of Cost of Project Inputs was up by 6.5 per cent annually in July. The rise in the project outlay index over the first four months of the current fiscal worked out to 1.7 per cent. The annual price rise for manufactured products, which technically sets the pace for project investment, worked out to 5.6 per cent during the month. Computed by Economic Research India Pvt. Ltd, the ERIL Index measures the overall project cost escalation in terms of WPI of material inputs relevant in project construction

The aggregate wholesale price index for non-metallic mineral products rose by 1.6 per cent during July due to higher prices of grey cement (3 per cent), glass bottles and bottle ware (2 per cent), and bricks and tiles (1 per cent). However, the prices of marbles declined by 2 per cent and lime by 1 per cent.

The composite WPI for machinery and machine tools escalated by 0.7 per cent during the month due to 9 per cent price hike in hydraulic equipment, 6 per cent in electric generators, 5 per cent in electric motors, 2 per cent each in PVC insulated cable, textile machinery, machine tools, capacitors and electric motor starters; and 1 per cent each in electric switches, thresher, electrical wires, chemical plant equipment, material handling equipment and plastic machinery. However, the prices of UPA/stabiliser declined by 2 per cent and fibre optic cable, electric switch gears, fluorescent tubes, ball/roller bearing and electronic PCB/micro circuit by 1 per cent each.

The combined WPI of transport, equipment and parts increased 0.5 per cent due to higher prices of shafts (all kinds) and railway axle and wheel (2 per cent each) and motor vehicles, auto parts and bicycles (1 per cent each).

Even as the aggregate WPI of basic metals, alloys and metal products remained unchanged over the month, the WPI of aluminium and alloys was up by 2 per cent and stainless steel and alloys by 1.3 per cent while that of sponge iron was down by 4 per cent and welded pipes 1.6 per cent.
