Pointing out the works lagging
at the Sasan ultra mega
power project, Central Electricity
Authority has indicated
that there may be a delay in
project completion. At a recent
meeting of the joint monitoring
committee, CEA officials noted
that for Unit-I there were 12,000
joints yet to be welded and it may
be difficult to complete them in
time to achieve hydro test scheduled
this month. However, Sasan
Power Ltd, the Reliance Power
subsidiary, assured that it was
confident of achieving hydro test
as scheduled and COD of unit on
schedule, as availability of manpower
at the site has improved.
CEA officials further pointed
out that the construction on
Unit-II and subsequent units
seemed to be lagging behind
schedule considering that only
7,104 pressure part welding
joints had so far been completed
while total boiler pressure part
tonnage erection for the unit was
only 1,976 tonnes against total
7,000 tonnes to be erected.
Besides, there was slow
progress in case of over land conveyor
and switchyard erection.
The developer agreed to review
the progress on the second and
subsequent units and deploy
additional resources to achieve
milestones if needed.
Sasan Power Ltd informed that
quite a large number of people
were occupying the area coming
in the way of over land conveyor
for coal transportation and they
were even constructing new
structures. The company further
informed that about 800 structures
had come up in the alignment
of OLC and pipeline and
the support of the district administration
was required to resolve
the issue.
Further, 46 acres of government
land for the conveyor was
yet to be handed over. In this
regard, CEA requested the
Madhya Pradesh government to
look into the matter of allotment
of land and removal of 800 structures
in OLC in consultation
with the district collector.
Further, the developer is still
awaiting handover of land by
Northern Coalfields Ltd for coal
block. Sasan Power informed
CEA that with the available land
it would be able to meet the targeted
coal production for commissioning
of Unit-I but they
would need the remaining land
at the earliest so as to ramp up
coal production.
Regarding the construction of
associated transmission lines,
PGCIL informed that the 274-
km 765kV S/C Satna-Bina Line-
I and 311-km 765kV S/C Binalndore
Line (311 km) had been
completed and test-charged.
However, Stage-I forest clearance
was awaited for the Sasan-
Satna Line-1 that has 34 km of
circuit traversing forest land.
