Here is one story which may
sound like a spoof but is real.
In 2010, when Mayawati
was at the helm in UP, there
were widespread protests in
various parts of the state
against land acquisition for a
township along the Yamuna
Expressway. Some of those
protests turned violent
wherein police had to open
fire to quell the violence. In
one such police firing, a
minor boy, Rafiq, studying in
class 8, died at Tappal in Aligarh
district. Though police
denied killing Rafiq, political
parties tried to make most of
this incident. Rashtriya Lok
Manch chief Amar Singh visited
Rafiq's family and gifted
them

1 lakh. Rahul Gandhi
went personally to Rafiq's
father to offer his condolences.
The district administration
gave the boy's father

10 lakh as compensation.
As the incident slowly
started fading from public
memory, the dead boy
showed up at his home in
Kansera village a week ago!
The boy reportedly had a tiff
with his father and in anger
ran away from his home to
Mumbai.
Meanwhile, Rafiq's father
used up all the money he
received as compensation
to marry off his two daughters
and is now not in a position
to pay back the money
given by the district administration.
Incidentally the district
administration has started
an enquiry to find out
whether Rafiq's disappearance
was deliberate, to
secure public sympathy and
compensation.
And Amar Singh is ruing
his fate—Pehli bar jindagi
mein kuch achcha karne
nikla toh who bhi…?
