METALS The plan by Shri Hari Ferro Alloys Pvt. Ltd to set up a ferroalloy plant at Bhiknoor in Nizamabad district of Andhra Pradesh has been delayed by six months, a company spokesperson told Projectmonitor. "Work on the proposed unit, scheduled to come up in two phases with a total capacity of 33,284 tonnes per annum, was to start late this month. But, due to the economic crisis we plan to commence work by early January 2010," he said.
The project involves the setting up of a submerged electric arc furnace (SAF) in two phases - phase-I with a capacity of 7 MVA and phase-II with a capacity of 9 MVA - to produce ferroalloys. The plant will manufacture ferro silicon (Fe-Si) with a total capacity of 11,258 tpa in two phases (4,925 tpa in phase-I and 6,333 tpa in phase-II); silico manganese (Si-Mn) with a total capacity of 25,338 tpa (11,088 tpa in phase-I and 14,250 tpa in phase-II); and ferromanganese (Fe-Mn) of 32,284 tpa capacity in two phases of 14,784 tpa and 18,500 tpa, respectively.
Work on phase-I of the project is expected to start early next year and complete six months thereafter. Talking about the investment, the official said that phase-I would cost around Rs 12.5 crore and phase-II about Rs 14-15 crore. "We are in talks with banks and financial institutions for loans for the project. The total estimated cost of the project is Rs 40 crore, including machinery. The unit will come up near our existing plant and land is in our possession," he added. Shri Hari Ferro Alloys has some 20-30 units in Andhra Pradesh.
