Six Indian firms have evinced interest to participate in the first gas-based fertilizer project of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) in Tripura. ONGC had sought 'expression of interest' from companies to be a partner in the proposed Rs 5,000-crore project. The project would be implemented as a joint venture between the ONGC, Tripura government and a fertilizer company.

ONGC has discovered huge deposits of natural gas at its Khubal structure along the Assam-Agartala NH-44 and gas from these wells would be supplied to the proposed fertilizer plant. Besides, ONGC is now ready to commission its Rs 5,000 crore, 726 MW thermal power project at Palatana. It is ONGC's first mega commercial project and is expected to start power generation by June this year.
