Gail India’s pipeline project to connect Kochi and Bangalore is progressing well and is expected to be complete on schedule. The pipeline project being implemented in two phases will be used to transport gas from Petronet LNG’s Kochi terminal to Bangalore via Mangalore. The first phase of the project, implemented at a cost of Rs 348 crore, is expected to be complete by August and by then PLL hopes to operate its terminal at full capacity. Presently, PLL’s 5 MTPA plant operates at 20% of the installed capacity. In the first phase pipeline will be laid between Kochi and Koottanad which will be extended to Mangalore in the second phase and then to Bangalore. The total cost of the project is estimated to be Rs 3,263 crore.
