EPC conglomerate Punj Lloyd Ltd, Gurgaon, has won a Rs 1,050-crore contract in Libya, its first in that country, for infrastructure upgrade at Arada, an existing township in capital Tripoli. Awarded by Housing & Infrastructure Board of Tripoli, the contract will be executed in joint venture with Public Works Company, Tripoli.
In India, PLL won a Rs 104.56-crore mandate from Cairn Energy India Ltd for engineering, procurement and construction of a 56.52-km pipeline. Scheduled to be completed in seven months, the company will lay a crude oil heated and insulated pipeline and a gas pipeline in section II for Cairn's Mangala development project in Gujarat.
Simplex Projects Ltd has reportedly won a Rs 2,000-crore order for civil construction in Libya. This is the first overseas contract of the Kolkata-headquartered company, it is learnt. Awarded by the public works department of Libya, the contract involves building around 2,000 dwelling units, public buildings, schools, community halls etc. The project is 70 km from the famous city of Sebha in central Libya. The entire project, including the construction of supporting infrastructure like roads, drainage and sewage systems, will be completed in 36 months. Simplex has only recently ventured into the overseas market, and has bid for contracts in Holland and Middle East countries, it is learnt.
