MARG Karaikal Port, promoted
by MARG Ltd, one
of India's fastest growing
infrastructure companies, handled
6.01 million tonnes of
multi-cargo and 191 major vessels
in FY2011-12 vis-à-vis 4.75
million tonnes and 122 major
vessels handled in FY2010-11, a
year-on-year growth of 26.53 per
cent and 56.56 per cent respectively
During Q4 FY12, the port handled
a traffic of 1.62 million
tonnes of multi-cargo and 56
major vessels, including 0.87
million tonnes of cargo, handled
during March 2012-the highest
cargo handled in a single month.
In March 2012, MARG
Karaikal Port, which is located in
Karaikal district of Puducherry,
around 300 km south of Chennai,
successfully handled the
MV Manousus P with a parcel
size of 72,848 tonnes of coal
cargo, the biggest cargo vessel
handled till date.
The port also handled 1,087
rakes in FY2011-12 vis-à-vis 745
rakes in FY2010-11 and handled
1,859 rakes since commencement
of railway operations at the
port. It also handled its first
crude oil vessel for CPCL in February
2012.
