The Ministry of Shipping has
sanctioned

100 crore to
Chennai Port Trust to procure
land for an integrated dry port
and a multimodal logistics hub
to be set up near Sriperumbudur
SEZ in Kanchipuram district
of Tamil Nadu.
The port trust will acquire
about 125 acres at Mappedu
near the SEZ from the State
Industries Promotion Corporation
of Tamil Nadu on a 99-year
lease. A private operator will
set up the dry port and multimodal
logistics hub on BOT
basis through the PPP route for
a 30-year license period.
The logistics hub is targeted
at units located in and around
Sriperumbudur, a major centre
for automobile and electronic
hardware manufacturing.
It will have an inland container
depot and off-dock container
freight station, container
yard, rail and road connectivity,
trade centre, and warehouses
for containerised cargoes
such as leather garments,
textiles, automotives
and electronic hardware.
