The Tamil Nadu government
has unveiled a plan to lay a
162-km 'Chennai Peripheral
Road' connecting Mamallapuram
and Ennore Port at an outlay of

1,420 crore. The government will
prepare a detailed project report
for the project.
The road would link the tourist
town of Mamallapuram, with
Ennore via Singaperumalkoil,
Sriperumbudur, Tiruvallur,
Thamaraipakkam, Periyapalayam
and Puduvayal till Kattupalli
(adjacent to Ennore port
where L&T shipyard is located).
While new roads measuring a
length of 83.20 km would be laid,
78.60 km of existing roads would
also be upgraded under the project.
A detailed plan would be prepared
for creation of bypass roads
linking State highways in the city
limits, to reduce traffic congestion
in urban localities.
Besides, whenever a new road
was laid or upgraded, a 'road grid'
system would be formed to facilitate
development around the
road. The state will implement the
first road grids on Outer Ring
Road as a pilot project.
