
The Kerala government
inaugurated the work on a
connecting road to the site of
the proposed Rs. 6,000-crore Vizhinjam Port signalling the
start of phase-I of the Vizhinjam
International Container
Transshipment Terminal. The
state government will develop
the basic infrastructure
including rail and road connectivity
to the port site at an
estimated cost of Rs.450 crore.
The 2-km stretch of road
connecting the international
port to the national highway
will be completed within
six months. The road maintenance
work includes 29
stretch roads that connect
Kovalam and Kalayikkavilai.
The project will be completed
at an estimated cost of Rs.30 crore.
Vizhinjam Port will have an
annual handling capacity of
4.1 million containers.
