Aggreko, the global leader in
the supply of temporary
power and temperature control
services, has provided an
11-mw power package for Amara
Raja Batteries Ltd to ensure continued
production during a series
of scheduled power outages.
The company faced 15 days of
power losses from the grid between
March and May. As one of the
largest battery manufacturers on
the Indian oceanic rim, 15 days of
production losses would have
made a significant negative impact
on profits. In addition, the threat of
additional unplanned outages
meant that ARBL required immediate
emergency stand-by power
that would be available 24x7.
In 2009, ARBL had contracted
four rental power companies to
supply 10 mw of power during similar
power outages, of which 4 mw
was supplied by Aggreko. However,
in February 2010, ARBL put out
a tender to find a sole supplier for
an 11 mw rental power package.
Based on the excellent service
Aggreko had provided in 2009,
ARBL awarded Aggreko the
exclusive contract to supply
11 mw of power to three of ARBL's
business units, a release by
Aggreko said. Aggreko's rapid
response capability was proven
when the project was installed
and commissioned within just six
days of the contract award. The
installation of the turn-key power
package provided ARBL with a
continuous power supply during
the scheduled power outages and
ensured that the company was
able to sustain production levels.
Commenting on the project,
Abid Ahmed, Country Manager,
India, said: "This project demonstrates
our ability to provide manufacturers
with a cost-effective
alternative to power outages. I
am confident that temporary
power will be an increasingly
popular alternative for manufacturers
in India."
