Blackstone invests in Moser Baer energy biz

Moser Baer Projects Pvt. Ltd, a developer of power generation facilities with a diverse pipeline of thermal, solar and hydropower projects, has attracted an investment of Rs. 1,350 crore (approximately $300 million) from the Blackstone Group.

MBPPL has been founded by Deepak Puri and Ratul Puri who had earlier established Moser Baer India Ltd, an optical device manufacturer. Moser Baer Projects plans to commission 5,000 mw of power capacity by 2016 comprising 4,000 mw of thermal, 500 mw of solar and 500 mw of hydropower.

Blackstone's investment will enable MBPPL to emerge as a leading player in the India energy sector over the next few years. Edelweiss acted as the exclusive financial advisor to MBPPL on the transaction.
