Sterlite Grid Ltd, a wholly
owned subsidiary of Sterlite
Technologies Ltd, has
placed EPC orders for its
765kV transmission lines, two
each in Maharashtra and Madhya
Pradesh, with KEC International
Ltd and Simplex Infrastructure
Ltd. These contracts form a
part of the Bhopal Dhule Transmission
Company Ltd project.
The scope of these orders
includes engineering, supply and
construction of 765kV transmission
lines terminating at Bhopal
and Dhule substations. These
substations are also being developed
by Sterlite Grid and were
ordered earlier this year with
Areva T&D, Hyundai (Korea) and
BTW (China).
The contract, which was signed,
is part of investment by Sterlite
Grid for its project that involves
establishing four 765kV single
circuit transmission lines and two
765kV substations for strengthening
the western region. The substations
would be set up at Bhopal
in Madhya Pradesh and Dhule in
Maharashtra and are a part of the
transmission systems strengthening
project awarded to Sterlite
Grid Ltd on BOOM basis.
The transmission lines would be
commissioned within three years
and the company would operate
and maintain the same for a minimum
tenure of 35 years thereafter.
Pravin Agarwal, Wholetime
Director, Sterlite Technologies
Ltd, said, "These orders represent
our continued commitment to the
grid business and shows our seriousness
in executing large-scale
transmission jobs in the country
on BOOM basis. India requires
tremendous investment in the
transmission sector over next five
years to meet its economic growth
targets, and our goal is to bring the
required level of investments and
entrepreneurship in a sector that
has attracted little attention from
the private sector so far."
In the above orders, KEC's share
is

340 crore and is for construction
of 765kV and 400kV transmission
lines in Maharashtra and
Gujarat. The project consists of
765kV single circuit transmission
lines from Aurangabad to Dhule
(188.5 km), from Dhule to Vadodara
(264 km), and 400kV double
circuit, 16-km long line in Dhule.
The two transmission lines are
part of a build-own-operatemaintain
project awarded by
Power Finance Corporation to
Sterlite Technologies Ltd for
transmission system strengthening
in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra
and Gujarat.
