State-owned Tourist Resorts Kerala Ltd. (TRKL) plans to set up an urban recreation-cum-commercial centre at Thiruvananthapuram through public-private partnership to boost tourism in the state.

The centre is expected to come up on a 20-acre plot overlooking the Veli Lake. TRKL will invest Rs 1,500 million in the project. The centre will have facilities like night cricket, go carting, bowling alleys, theme halls, light and sound show, multiplexes, multi-level parking and shopping malls. It will also house food courts, cottages and spas.

Many groups like Tata Infrastructure Ltd, Oberoi Constructions, Chalet Hotels of the Raheja Group  have evinced interest in the project,' said T.K. Manzoor, Head, TRKL. The work on the project is expected to commence after completion of the pre-qualification process and bidding is c ompleted. The company has similar projects in other parts of the state also.
