The Tuticorin Port made a record in handling cargo on June 26, 2010. The port handled a total quantity of 1,20,953 tonnes on that day, surpassing the previous record of 1,16,955 tonnes handled on August 22, 2008. The major cargoes that contributed to the achievement were containerised cargo & coal consigned to Tuticorin Thermal Power Station.
