The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) plans to introduce 68 eight-coach trains before June on the broad gauge line to ease overcrowding in the trains. The metro which covers about 190 kms, comprises 60 km of standard gauge and 130 km of broad gauge. Of the 200 trains criss-crossing the network, 100 trains have been converted into six-coach and the other 100 are four-coach trains.
The DMRC also plans to install 800 more lifts and escalators at Metro stations during Phase III for easy and hassle free commuting. Currently, DMRC operates 399 lifts and 490 escalators across its 140 Metro stations. Annually over 72 crore commuters use the lifts and escalators while traversing the Delhi Metro.
