The proposed 49-km railway
line connecting the newly constructed
Hazaribagh station
with Shivpur in Chatra district of
Jharkhand has been cleared by
the Ministry of Railway. The project,
which is estimated to cost

1,000 crore, would be commissioned
by December 2012.
With the construction of Hazaribag
station complete, preliminary
work on the construction
of a new line linking Shivpur
in Chatra with Tori via
Tandwa of East Central Railway
has commenced. The new
line is important for economic
development of Chatra and
Hazaribagh districts, which do
not have rail links, besides providing
an optional route for
coal transportation.
The forest clearance for some
portion of the rail line has been
obtained.
Meanwhile, the new Koderma-
Hazaribag-Barkakana
Junction is expected to be commissioned
by June 2013 with
about 75 per cent of work completed
so far.
