The Centre has sanctioned Rs 1,084.42 crore for Maharashtra under the Prime Minister Gram Sadak Yogana (PMGSY) for the current year. The state Rural Development Minister Jayant Patil said that Centre's high powered committee had approved Rs 608.21 crore for fixing the missing links on 659 bridges on sanctioned roads which are more than 25 meter in length. A sum of Rs 56.65 crore was sanctioned for construction of roads in the some villages under the Bharat Nirman project. Besides, Rs 245.52 crore has been sanctioned for linking roads in tribal areas and another Rs 55.17 crore for linking of roads in non-tribal areas. For research and development in construction material for roads in rural areas, Rs 118.87 crore has been approved. The Maharashtra government has also proposed upgradation of 12,550 km roads under the PMGSY, which is estimated to cost Rs 4,300 crore.
