The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority has issued a Letter of Acceptance to the joint venture of KNR Constructions Ltd and SLMI Infra Projects Pvt. Ltd for strengthening and widening of the radial road from ECIL X Road to Cherial X Road in Hyderabad from km 7.0 to km 17.18. The project, valued at 49.25 crore, will provide better connectivity to the Outer Ring Road.

KNRCL and SLMI Infra Projects hold 51 per cent and 49 per cent share in the JV company and the project is to be completed within 18 months from the specified date, a company spokesperson told Projectmonitor. The company had submitted its bid for the project in November 2011.

The project is part of HMDA's plan to expand three radial roads for better connectivity to the ORR. The municipal administration and the state urban development department have approved the tenders invited for the expansion of radial roads, to be executed with loan from Japan International Cooperative Agency.

HMDA awarded the first of the contracts, the Jeedimetla-Saregudem radial road (RR No.11) to GVR-DRA joint venture for 69.90 crore; ECIL X Road-Cherial X Road (RR No.16) to KNR-SLMI Infra joint venture for 49.25 crore; and Nagole Junction- Gourelly X Road (RR No.22) to SLMI Infra Projects Ltd for 31.67 crore.

HMDA had identified 33 radial roads for smooth flow of traffic from the inner ring road to ORR a few years ago. The total estimated cost of development of these roads is 2,500 crore of which JICA agreed to fund 380 crore with HMDA bearing 30 per cent of the cost and the state road and bridges department and municipal administration contributing 25 per cent and 10 per cent, respectively.

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority plans to develop these roads in a phased manner before the entire 158-km Outer Ring Road stretch is ready. The authority has taken up 10 radial roads projects so far out of which seven have been completed.

The completed radial roads are Indian School of Business-Gachibowli ORR, Agriculture University, Rajendranagar-APRL, Langer Houz-Vikarabad, a four-lane road on Tippu Khan Bridge-Gandipet (Narsingi), Byramalguda Junction- Nagarjunasagar Road-ORR, and Pahadisharif-Tukkuguda on Srisailam state highway.
