Chief Minister Shri V S Achuthanandan on Friday laid the foundation stone for the proposed Cyberpark at at Cheemeni in Kasargod district, Kerala. The Cyberpark is being developed on 100 acres of SEZ approved land, of which 25 acres will be kept ready initially as an IT/ITES-specific Special Economic Zone (SEZ). The first phase of the Cyberpark is expected to be ready for allotment by July 2011. The first building of 1.5 lakh sq ft is projected to create employment for 2,000 people and the park, when completed, will employ around 20,000 people.

Cyberpark is the third IT Park in Kerala after the Technopark at Trivandrum and the Infopark at Kochi. The Cyberpark is also being developed as a hub and spoke model in the Malabar region similar to Technopark and Infopark. The spokes will be set up in Kannur and Kasaragod. The development work on the second spoke in Kannur is under way.
