The government has given sanctions for setting up nine jute parks in states,
including Bihar, West Bengal and Assam. This was announced by the Minister
of State for Textiles Panabaaka Lakshmi in the Lok Sabha. The Minister
further stated that the subsidy available under this scheme for
establishment of Jute Park is 40% of the eligible cost for setting up common
infrastructure in the Jute Park (excluding the cost of land), subject to a
maximum of Rs.7.5 crores. For setting up Jute Parks in Northeastern States
the subsidy is 90%. Under the scheme, common infrastructure such as compound
wall, electric power supply, roads, effluent treatment plant, water supply,
sanitation, sewerage and drainage system etc. can be constructed.
The Jute Technology Mission (JTM) has been launched by the Government of
India with a total outlay of Rs 355 crore in 2007-08 for a period of five
years, aimed at making jute products competitive in domestic as well as
international market through increased efficiency, modernisation, higher
productivity, quality assurance, diversification, exports, etc.
