The government has approved setting up of 40 textile parks in nine states that have together attracted Rs 3,500 crore investment and generated thousands of jobs, Minister of State for Textiles Panabaka Lakshmi said in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha. Under the Scheme for Integrated Textile Parks (SITP), the ministry of textiles has sanctioned 40 textiles park projects. These projects are located in different states - Maharashtra (9), Tamil Nadu (8), Gujarat (7), Andhra Pradesh & Rajasthan (5 each), Punjab (3) and Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh & West Bengal (1 each). The minister said an external evaluation of the SITP scheme was contacted by M/s Ramky Enviro Engineers Ltd. in 2009.
