The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved the proposal of sewerage and non-sewerage schemes for pollution abatement of river Ganga at Allahabad under the National Ganga River Basin Authority (NGRBA) of the Ministry of Environment and Forests at an estimated cost of Rs 305.34 crore.
The project cost will be shared on 70:30 basis between the central & the state government. While the centre will contribute Rs 213.74 crore, the state government will provide Rs 91.60 crore for the project which aims at minimising pollution of the river and improving its eco-system in the city. The project will be completed within 34 months.
The pilgrims using the river water at Allahabad for religious purposes, including during the Maha Kumbh in 2013, will benefit from the project.and general hygiene and sanitation conditions in Allahabad will be significantly improved.
