The Uttar Pradesh government is in the process of building several flyovers, elevated corridors and bridges, including over key rivers, in the state. For 2014-15, the government has set a target of 14 flyovers and 15 bridges. Construction work on some 260 road and river bridges is already underway. These include 11 bridges on river Ganga, 12 on river Yamuna, 15 on river Gomti, 11 on river Rapti and 14 bridges on other rivers like Ram Ganga, Chambal, Ghaghra, Kane, Dhasan, Betwa and Qwari.

The state government had approved 17 and 28 flyovers for 2012-13 and 2013-14, respectively.

The UP government has claimed that it has laid the foundation of 262 short and long bridges. Of these, 94 are long bridges, 119 are short bridgs and 49 are road over-bridges. It also claims to have inaugurated as many as 231 bridges of various categories of which 148 are long bridges, 47 are short bridges and 36 are road over-bridges.

Recently, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav inaugurated a four-lane railway over-bridge on Mahatma Gandhi Road and an elevated road on the right side of the ROB at Gomti Nagar in Lucknow. The ROB and elevated road were built by Uttar Pradesh Setu Nigam.

The road over-bridge was built at a cost of around Rs.42 crore which includes Rs.10 crore for the main bridge and Rs.32 crore for the approach road. The length of the ROB is 655.95 metres. The 66.50-metre long main bridge has been constructed by UP State Bridge Corporation Ltd under an MoU with Indian Railways. Work on this project started in June 2013 and completed in October 2014.

In the same way, the elevated road on the right side of the ROB in Gomti Nagar, Lucknow is 359.50 metres long and was built at an estimated cost of Rs.8.68 crore. Work on this project started in September 2013 and was completed in September this year.
