KG basin_Andhra Pradesh_ProjectsMonitorThe State government of Andhra Pradesh has requested the power ministry for allocation if 375 MW from unallocated power on account of zero supply of KG gas to the gas-based power plants in the State.

The State has informed the ministry that a total of 1498 MW of gas-based capacity is installed in the state with long term power purchase agreement which have KG D-6 gas allocation. These projects include 220 MW GVK Extension, 370 MW GMR Vemagiri, 464 MW Gautami and 444 MW Konaseems power projects. Further, 586 MW of installed power plants are merchant power plants in the State. These include 366 MW Lanco Stage-II and 220 MW GMR Barge Mounted projects.

The State officials stated that the natural gas supplies from RIL KG D-6 fields have become zero to the power plants in Andhra Pradesh from March 01, 2013 onwards. Since the Natural gas supplies has stopped, the power plants of 2084 MW who has got only RIL KG D-6 allocation have become stranded.

In view of this, the State has requested the power ministry to allocate power from unallocated power of 300 MW from the Kudamkulam Atomic power plant and 75 MW from second expansion of Neyveli Lignite Corporation on firm basis to Andhra Pradesh. The State has also written to the Prime Minister Office in this regard earlier.
