Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd has bagged a contract from NMDC Ltd for setting up a plant power distribution package at its 3-million tpa integrated steel plant at Nagarnar in Chhattisgarh. The turnkey contract is valued at Rs. 359 crore.
Significantly, this is the second package contract won by BHEL from NMDC Ltd for the same steel plant, as the public sector engineering and construction entity is already executing a raw material handling package for the project.
The current order envisages design, engineering, supply, erection and commissioning of the complete power distribution system on turnkey basis. The system will supply power through 33kV GIS-based substations to the shops of the integrated steel plant.
Earlier, BHEL secured a contract for setting up a 1,320-MW supercritical thermal power project on EPC basis from Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Ltd. Valued at around Rs. 7,800 crore, the order is for setting up the 2×660 MW coal-fired supercritical thermal power project at Ennore SEZ in Tamil Nadu. This power plant will be constructed on a reclaimed ash pond which calls for specialised civil design, utilising otherwise barren land.
With this project, BHEL has now won orders for supply and installation of 35 supercritical boilers and 30 turbines of 660, 700 & 800 MW ratings.
BHEL’s scope of work in the Tamil Nadu project includes design, engineering, manufacture, supply, construction, erection, testing and commissioning for the EPC package. The key equipment for the contract will be manufactured at BHEL’s Trichy, Haridwar, Bhopal, Ranipet, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Jhansi plants, while the company’s power sector – southern region will be responsible for civil works and erection and commissioning of the equipment.
