It is not just private contractors who are guilty of delaying NTPC’s 3X250 MW thermal power project in Bongaigaon district of Assam. Even state run BHEL too playing truant in completing its part of the contract. According to NTPC, the slow pace of works by contractor BHEL has adversely affected the project to a large extent. NTPC, central power PSU, has complained that the critical milestones including completion of steam blowing, putting turbine generator on barring gear and turbine rolling synchronization were proposed to be completed in 2010 by BHEL, which have now been postponed for 2015. Despite constant persuasion, the contractor BHEL has failed to buckle up and conclude balance works at the project site further affecting the project’s commissioning.

Earlier, it may be remembered that NTPC had cancelled contracts given to private contractors, SPML and Punj Lloyd, for slow pace of work.
