Captive coal blocks are likely to fail to achieve the targeted coal production during the current fiscal, if the figures available for the first nine months of the financial year are any indication. Captive coal blocks could produce only 28.02 million tones of coal till the end of December 2013. It should be noted that the total production target from the captive coal blocks for the year 2013-14 was set at 44.58 million tones.

Captive coal blocks produced 37.036 MT of coal during 2012-13 as against the coal production of 36.167 MT and 34.6 MT during 2011-12 and 2010-11 respectively.
