Electro-Motive Diesel, Inc., a leading global locomotive manufacturer, is expanding its base in India with a new world-class facility at Noida, Uttar Pradesh, catering Indian Railways and other global customers. EMD, a fully-owned subsidiary of Progress Rail Services Corporation, a Caterpillar company, offers complete railroad solutions to railways across the world, including locomotives, track, repower, signalling and safety technologies.

Billy Ainsworth, Progress Rail, and President and CEO, Electro-Motive Diesel, Inc., said, “EMD is committed to investing in India to support Indian Railways in future technology. In order to provide effective support to IR, we have increased our indigenisation in India by inaugurating our new facility in Noida.”

The Noida facility is aimed at making India a global hub for export of sophisticated locomotive systems and control equipment, including complex electronic control cabinets, and also providing support services like overhaul of components. Through the new facility, EMD strives to increase its local participation and create jobs in India, a company release said.

EMD’s partnership with Indian Railways achieved a new milestone in 2013 with the rollout of the 1,000th EMD designed WDG4 locomotive from Diesel Locomotive Works, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, and in 2013-2014, 290 EMD designed high horsepower locomotives were manufactured at DLW.
