According to a recent Supreme Court judgment, a person facing a murder trial can contest elections, become an MP and even a minister in the Union government, but pendency of a criminal case will not entitle him to a job even in the lowest rung of a police force. A sensible judgment, indeed. If undertrials are not allowed from becoming MPs, Parliament will remain empty. In short, what this judgment means is that a constable has to have more character than an MP or a Minister!
