Between February 28 and March 4, the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Government of India, cleared a slew of projects across industrial and infrastructure sectors worth nearly Rs.19,000 crore.

The Empowered Institution has approved five projects worth Rs.1,369.51 crore. These include:

  • In-principle approval for two projects from Government of Madhya Pradesh for setting up 50,000-tonne modern food silos each in Indore and Bhopal.
  • Final approval for a total viability gap funding of Rs.260.92 crore for two road projects, namely two laning of Guna-Ashok Nagar-Ishagarh (SH-20) road in Madhya Pradesh and four laning of Mohania-Ara section of NH-30 in Bihar; and development of 400kV DCDS Sarni (Satpura)-Ashta transmission line project for evacuation of power from 2×250 MW extension units at Satpura TPS in Madhya Pradesh. Last year, Madhya Pradesh Power Transmission Company Ltd awarded the transmission line contract to Kalpataru Satpura Transco Pvt. Ltd.

Highway Project_ProjectsMonitorUnder its Pilot Projects Initiative, the Department of Economic Affairs has approved the bid process for three PPP projects in Maharashtra, valued at around Rs.390 crore. These are a solid waste management processing and disposal facility (waste-to-energy and scientific landfill) in Mumbai; a 24×7 water supply project in Lonavala, a hill station; and a non-revenue water reduction and 100 per cent metering project at Ichalkaranji in Kolhapur district.

The high-level Public Private Partnership Approval Committee (PPPAC), under the chairmanship of Dr. Arvind Mayaram, Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, granted approval to six projects of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, and one project of the Ministry of Shipping. The projects are estimated to cost over Rs.16,000 crore (see table).
