HKR Roadways Ltd, a special purpose vehicle promoted by Gayatri Projects Ltd, has started collecting toll from the four-laned Hyderabad–Karimnagar–Ramagundam stretch of SH–I in undivided Andhra Pradesh. The road, also known as Rajiv Rahadari, starts from Parade Grounds, Secunderabad, at km 9.600 and traverses through the districts of Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Medak, Karimnagar and Adilabad before connecting NH-16 at Mancheriyal, at km 235.058. Incidentally, all these districts fall in the newly created state of Telangana.

HKRGPL had secured the state highway project from the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh government in consortium with DLF Infra Holdings Ltd. It involved four-laning of the SH-I stretch from km 28.200 to km 235.058, an approximate length 207 km. The company executed the project in BOT-Toll mode on DBFOT basis under public-private Partnership. The project enjoys a 25-year concession period that includes construction period of 30 months. The total cost of the project was around Rs. 2,209 crore.

“We are delighted with the completion of this project. The road plays an important role in connecting some of the key regions of Hyderabad, Medak and Karimnagar. The corridor is expected to play a vital role in the economic development of the Telangana region as the belt is marked by the presence of several induistrial units,” Sandeep Kumar Reddy, Managing Director, Gayatri Projects Ltd, said.
