Pursuing its “live in penury and die in luxury” policy, the UPA government has amended post-retirement rules for retired bureaucrats making them eligible to get “additional pension” once they turn 80. Experts have criticised this move asking why this benefit for babus who were in civil services for their uncivil services? While the babus are burning the midnight oil to prove that Rs.28 per day per person is enough to live in India, what is the need to increase the pension post-retirement? In fact, it should have been cut down. Alternatively, they should have been covered under food security bill without increasing the pension amount.

Maybe, our Prime Minister is trying to secure his future, post-2014 general elections.
