LTHPL awards civil works

LTHPL awards civil worksLanco Teesta Hydro Power (LTHPL), an arm of NHPC, has awarded a civil works order worth Rs 1,248.44 crore to Gammon Engineers and Contractors.

The company has awarded Lot-II package of balance civil works package of 500 MW Teesta-VI hydroelectric project.

The package includes works for underground power house and transformer cavern, part of Head Race Tunnel-I (HRT) and HRT-II, surge shafts, pressure shafts and adits (water tunnel inspection points), Tail Race Tunnel (TRT) and other associated structures.

NHPC provided consultancy works for the same, including invitation of bids, tendering and evaluation.

Earlier, LTHPL was implementing the 500 MW (125 MW x four) Teesta-VI hydroelectric project on Teesta river in Sikkim.

The project will be completed at an estimated cost of Rs 5,748.04 crore (at July 2018 price level), which includes acquisition cost worth Rs 897.50 crore.

The project is expected to be completed within five years. The project is expected to generate 2,400 million units of electricity.

NHPC had acquired the project through the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) route after NCLT’s Hyderabad bench approved the resolution plan of NHPC on 26 July 2019 for the debt-ridden LTHPL.
